| How To Build A Winter Paddock With Geo-textile, Gravel & Sand |
| 1.) First level the site with a 3 degree slope so water flows off of the site. Placing drain tiles under the site or drainage ditches to divert water from the site. Above is the culvert that diverted water from the ditch uphill of the site, then ran under the site to a swale. |
2.) We used a heavy woven geotextile fabric. Roll the fabric out leaving an overlap. |
| 3.) Leave a 12" overlap between sheets of geotextile fabric. Make sure that the upper lap will be laid so that when spreading gravel over the material that it goes the same direction as material is spread. |

| 4.) Spread a 4" to 6" layer of gravel. Pack down then cover with a 4" layer of sand. If you use wood chips above, the layer should be around 12". |
5.) Make sure that you reseed ditches to reduce erosion. Cover your banks with material to keep banks from eroding. We used recycled manure & shavings then planted shrubs on the banks. |
