Safety
- All riders under 18 must ALWAYS wear a helmet when riding.
- Everyone must wear a helmet when jumping. No jumping allowed unless trainer is present or has given consent. If gate is closed when you come in, please reclose gate. Gate will be opened in the morning and only be shut during the day if no one is around for a period of time. Make sure all lights are turned off and barn doors are closed when you leave in the evening.
- Anyone handling or riding a horse must sign a "Hold Harmless Agreement". Extras will always be located in the viewing room to be signed and left. This includes guests.
Courtesy
- Your welcome to lunge your horse in the indoor arena when no others are using it.
- Please lunge horses in outdoor arena or lunging pen if someone is or is going to ride in the indoor arena.
- You may ride in arena while lessons are occurring but respect that individual's lesson. It is your responsibility to stay out of their way. They should only have to concentrate on their lesson.
- If jumping is occurring during a lesson you must stop riding and stay out of the way.
- Jumpers should be courteous to other riders and not "hog" the arena if others are there to ride, too.
Farrier
- You're welcome to use any farrier of your choice.
- Unless you have made prior arrangements with the farrier, you must leave a check made out to the farrier for shoeing and trims in advance. If your farrier is Jeff, we will contact you in advance of the farriers visit.
Barn Hours
- Hours opened to boarders: 6:00 a.m.- 10:00 p.m.
- Office Hours: 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Unless it is an emergency please respect office hours. If I'm down at the barn before or after these hours I will assist you and your needs.
Extra Charges
- If you cannot be present for the farrier or veterinarian, a $10.00 hold charge will be applied to your bill. You cannot expect your horse to always behave in crossties and its unsafe not to have another body there to assist the farrier or veterinarian. This fee will not be charged for vaccinations and worming.
- There will be a reasonable charge for any bandaging, excessive medicating, hand walking, cold hosing, etc. This will not include medications given with feed.
- Medications and Bandaging materials- as a service to boarders we do have limited supplies, which are available. You must get these supplies from us so we can record it for billing. I do mark up these materials. Bandaging materials costs are comparable to feed store prices. I mark up medications. It may be cheaper for you to supply your own. As a convenience to boarders, we do have medications available if the vet gives instructions over the phone or is not called in.
- There will be a $25.00 per hour fee for handling beyond customary handling.
Turn Outs
- There is always a risk when horses are out. Injuries, accidents, thrown shoes do occur no matter how safe we try to make it. In asking that your horse be turned out, you are accepting this risk factor. I originally thought that the boarded horses would be happier with a buddy. I was wrong. Injuries occurred even when these two horses got along fine for a month. Therefore, boarded horses will be turned out alone unless the owner and I agree to a different arrangement.
- We guarantee 3 long turnouts a week with full care board additional turn outs will be extra.
- Generally horses are on a Monday, Wednesday, Friday turnout schedule or a tuesday, thursday, Sunday schedule. Horses not turned out the previous day have priority. We always make sure that no matter what, each horse gets at least 3 long turnouts per week.
- If there are circumstances that you need a turn out on a particular day, we will make every effort to do this for you.
- We will not do indoor arena turnouts in the future unless a veterinarian orders it or if we feel it is necessary. If your horse cannot go out on pasture during drier months we will turn it out in the outdoor arena, winter paddocks or fat field (a pasture eaten down to nothing).
- Boarders may do indoor arena turnouts if they remain with their horse. Horses under saddle take priority and you must catch your horse if someone chooses to ride.
- During winter months, horses will be turned out in mud free winter turnout areas, not out in the fields. All of our pastures will be reseeded and treated for weeds. This should provide your horse with some excellent turnouts during good weather.
- Usually will not do turn outs on saturday unless it is a horse paying for additional turn outs or we are catching up due to poor weather conditions.
- If you want to do some future turnouts on saturday please contact us for placement.
Halters, Blanketing & Fly Masks
- Each horse must have its own turnout halter and lead rope by his or her stall. Expect this halter to get dirty!
- Blanketing and Winter Turnouts- each owner must provide a winter turnout blanket or a sheet if they want us to blanket their horse in its stall. I will not blanket horses that do not have a turnout sheet during the winter months. Turnout blankets or sheets will be hung out of the stable area when your horse is brought in. Their dry stable blanket will then be put on a much cleaner and drier horse. Occasionally someone may get side tracked (i.e. answer phone) and forgot to put your horses blanket back on. Each evening horse will be checked for blankets before barn lights go out. If you notice that someone forgot the blanket, please put it on yourself, and only complain to me if this is a common occurrence.
- If you provide us with a fly mask for the summer months, we will put it on before the horse goes out. We will not put fly spray on your horse. There are several products that last more then one day and it is your responsibility to apply it.
Health Care
- You have the right to use any veterinarian although Columbia Equine is our stable vet and I highly recommend them. We will only meet Columbia Equine for Veterinary calls. In an emergency we will call Columbia Equine Hospital.
- Worming & Vaccinations- All boarded horses will be required to have Columbia Equine Veterinary Services provide worming and vaccinations on a regular schedule determined by us. There is too great a risk to all horses (especially the babies), if all horses are not on a predetermined schedule. There will be no exceptions due to risk. For those interested in Strongid C pellets, if you buy them through Columbia Equine you automatically get $3,000 colic surgery insurance.
- Emergencies- In case of emergencies we will try to contact you. However, if we cant get a hold of you we reserve the right to call the veterinarian at our discretion.
- Large 12 x 16 stalls- These have priority for horses on stall rest, injuries, foaling, etc. If a horse appears to have a cold it will be put in the confinement stall by the arena entrance. If a horse is in that stall do not touch it unless you wash your hands afterwards.
Billing & Board Payments
- Horse board is due the first of every month. DO NOT WAIT FOR A BILL. All other charges will be billed to you quarterly. A $25 late fee will be applied to bills 10 days past due.
- With each quarterly billing you will also receive receipts for previous board and a billing statement with current balance.
- We have a full barn now and will only be accepting new boarders as others leave. You must give us 30 days notice if you plan to leave the barn, otherwise board will include 30 days after departure.
- Horses cannot leave until board is paid in full.
Boarder Problems or Concerns
- All problems should be brought to my attention first.
- Minor items will be resolved on the spot.
- Ongoing problems will be handled in the following manner.
- Boarder and I will determine whether their concern is a boarding issue, employee issue, or stable policy.
- If it is a continuing employee issue, boarder and I will write down the exact problem and the employee and I will discuss how to resolve the issue.
- If it is a boarding problem we will determine how we will do things different.
- If it is a stable policy, the policy may be presented to all and we will discuss ways that policy could be changed if I think that there should be a change
- If the boarder and I dont agree how to resolve the problem, I suggest they move to a different barn.
Barn Phone Line
